Famous Nereus boats

There was, at least to my knowledge, one famous racing boat which was named Nereus: it's a former America's Cup sparring partner !

It's a 70' 12 metre America Class boat build in 1938. She was born as Northern Light. Twenty years later she was renamed Nereus and served as trial horse for Columbia in '58 (which won the Cup !). She was used for the same purpose in '62 and '64 ! It was in 1964 that the famous French sailor Eric Tabarly sailed on her for one day, just after his first singlehanded Atlantic crossing race victory.

Abandoned, she sank but was rescued in 1984. Now you can sail her as rescuer and owner Bob Tiedemann charter her. More information about this ship on the following links:
